What are the essential books of journalism? A survey conducted at the Joint Journalism Historians Conference this spring, supplemented by “informal conversations,” has come up with a list–one that includes such standbys as Lippmann’s Public Opinion, Carey’s Communication and Culture, and Woodward and Bernstein’s All the President’s Men…but that, curiously, omits such standbys as McLuhan’s Understanding Media. Vote on your favorites, and perhaps make a shopping list for your next trip to the library, here.
