The Washington Post “Mouthpiece Theater” video in which columnists Dana Milbank and Chris Cillizza suggested that Hillary Clinton drink “Mad Bitch” beer was pulled from the Post yesterday evening after it drew heavy criticism, both here at CJR and around the Web.
Post spokesperson Kris Coratti sent the following message to CJR and other outlets that inquired about the piece: “The video was a satirical piece that lampooned people of all stripes. There was a section of the video that went too far, so we have removed the piece from our website.”
Left unanswered in Coratti’s message was a question we put to a couple of Milbank’s editors, who have not responded directly: What editorial standards apply to the Post’s videos, and do they differ from standards for print? The Clinton joke, after all, did not appear, in Milbank’s column, which covered much of the same ground as the video.
Post ombudsman Andy Alexander declined comment on the video, saying he doesn’t typically discuss such matters outside of his column or blog. Alexander said he “may” address the topic in those forums, though he hasn’t yet.
